I always tell my client’s that there are two parts to a divorce, the legal part (which is why I am retained ) and the emotional part. While the legal aspect of a divorce can be mindboggling in its complexity, the emotional part is, by my estimate, the more difficult for a client to get through. In many ways, when a person is looking at a divorce proceeding, he or she may also be dealing with feelings of failure. I prefer to believe that there is no failure, even when a relationship ends in a courtroom. While the relationship with our spouse is changing, there is always something positive that has occurred-even if it is simply an understanding of how nice “freedom” feels. While it may be difficult to believe when going through the process, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you will have a new/different life after the Divorce is final. I have many fine memories of clients who, when I speak with them a year or two after the Divorce is final, are happier than they thought they could be. Remember, this too, will pass.
