A study conducted over the last four years has indicated that there is a correlation between marital stress and depression. People in Arizona who are experiencing marital stress and are considering divorce may find some of the findings of this study enlightening. According to the study, a pleasant feeling — akin to happiness — is created by good conversation, especially first thing in the morning. Individuals experiencing marital stress find it difficult to keep the positive feelings created by the good conversation for an extended period of time after the conversation.
As part of the study, participants had to look at a number of images conveying positive, negative or neutral images. While looking at the images, the researchers measured the electrical response of the frowning muscles of the participants. The response was measured according to how long the frown lasted and the intensity of the frown. Interestingly, the participants who indicated that they experienced a lot of stress in their marriages reacted for shorter periods to positive images.
The study indicated that marriage is still the best option, as married people live longer and are happier. However, individuals who are experiencing lots of stress in their marriages, as well as some of the classic symptoms of depression, may find that considering ways to relieve marital stress is an option to a healthier life. Depression is not necessarily a consequence of an unhappy marriage, but there seems to be a link.
When a marriage is in trouble, there are many options to consider. Couples in Arizona may find it beneficial to obtain advice regarding their options from different sources. Getting clarity on where they stand may make decisions, such as to get a divorce, much easier and better for their health and well-being.
